Knights to Host St. John’s in NCAA First Round

ORLANDO, Fla. ( – The No. 12/17 UCF women’s soccer team (16-2-4) will host St. John’s (11-5-3) in the NCAA Tournament first round on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the UCF Soccer Complex. The Knights earned the No. 3 seed in their region and are one of 16 teams in the tournament to earn a national seed.

UCF head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak and Director of Athletics Todd Stansbury chat before the NCAA Championship field was announced Monday.

“We’re obviously really excited to have a national seed,” UCF head coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak said as her team gathered at Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the NCAA selection show. “To be a No. 3 seed puts us in a good position and that’s sometimes what it’s about when you go to the NCAA Tournament. We’re thrilled and can’t wait to get this tournament started.”

The Knights are also looking forward to at least one more game this season at the UCF Soccer Complex.

“It’s awesome. We love being at home,” senior goalkeeper Lianne Maldonado said. “It gives us more time to recover and regenerate. On top of that, we obviously love being in front of our fans.”

Red Flash face Virginia in first round of NCAA tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The Saint Francis University women’s soccer team will travel to Charlottesville, Va. to take on the Virginia Cavaliers Friday in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Women’s College Cup.

The Red Flash won its second Northeast Conference title on Sunday when it defeated LIU Brooklyn, 1-0, at the Stokes Soccerplex.SFU will now take on the Cavaliers who saw their 20-game win streak snapped in the ACC Semifinals.

Game time at Klöckner Stadium is set for 7 p.m.

In its last Women’s College Cup appearance in 2010, Saint Francis pushed Ohio State to the limit before surrendering the eventual game-winning goal in double overtime.

      1. Tickets for the game are $9 for reserved seats, $7 for adult general admission and $5 for youth/student/senior citizen general admission.
      2. Fans can order tickets for the tournament online at and by phone through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office at 800-542-UVA1 (8821) or 434-924-UVA1 (8821). Tickets are also available at the gate beginning one hour prior to the start of play.
